What are Adaptogens?

Adaptogens are herbs which balance adrenal function and help the body adapt to stress.

If you have adrenal exhaustion or adrenal insufficiency, adaptogens may be helpful.

If you are dealing with a lot of stress, anxiety or depression, supplementing with adapotgens could be quite beneficial.

Rhodiola rosea is one of the best studied herbs for anxiety and depression and is an excellent adaptogen. Other adaptogens include Ashwaganda, CordycepysPanax ginsengEleutherococcus, and licorice, in addition to certain Ayurvedic herbs and Traditional Chinese Medicine herbs.

As a side note, if you are struggling with stress, anxiety or depression, in addition to incorporating some adaptogens into you nutritional supplementation regime, a good fish oil is recommended daily.  Anxiety, stress, and depression are often associated with inflammation and immune system imbalance, and fish oil is known to be beneficial in controlling inflammation in the body and helping restore immune system balance.
