Saw palmetto appears to have a balancing effect on male sex hormones. It helps to preserve male potency, while tonifying and revitalizing the organs of the urogenital system. It is extremely well known for treating and preventing prostate problems. However, it appears that urinary symptoms due to mild to moderate prostate enlargement respond more readily to saw palmetto than symptoms due to severe prostate enlargement.

Saw Palmetto is also very well known as a treatment for hair loss and male pattern baldness and hair loss in both men and women.

In women Saw Palmetto in another herb that has also been used to raise estrogen levels and increases breast size, as a secondary effect. Its also used to treat menopause symptoms because of the effect it has of increasing estrogen.

CAUTION: Proceed with caution unless absolutely certain that treatment with saw palmetto for a male is warranted; if not warranted, it could cause a hormonal imbalance and disrupt the adrenal -pituitary axis with very adverse affects. More research is needed, but here is an example I cam across on a forum of saw palmetto used for male pattern baldness that *apparently* caused much greater issues – perhaps there was something else going on here, but its enough to make you slow down before throwing saw palmetto at your man for the time being; I will certainly be looking into this further : http://abchomeopathy.com/forum2.php/245774/
